All too often, smoothies are far less healthy than you might imagine. You order one at your local juice bar with the best of intentions, assuming you’re drinking up servings of healthy, fresh fruit. Unfortunately, what you usually get is a sugar-sweetened concoction loaded with sherbet.

When I make smoothies at home, I use only 100% fruit juice and frozen fruit. I never miss the added sugar, and I can’t imagine you will either when you whip up this recipe! It’s wonderfully tart and refreshing from tangy pomegranate and lime juices, making it a perfectly refreshing Spring-to-Summer treat. I used organic frozen peaches, but you could substitute mangoes, berries, or whatever fruit you prefer.

This dead-simple recipe is great for entertaining, too — add a splash of sparkling water and garnish with mint and you’ve got a refreshing and unusual punch.

Pomegranate Peach Smoothie

serves 1-2

1 1/2 C. sliced frozen peaches (210 g.)
3/4 C. 100% pomegranate juice
juice of 1 medium lime

1. Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend at high speed until peaches are thoroughly blended.
